Workhorse Doug Brady

Doug Brady, another engineer with whom we worked in the early days, has also become one of Australia’s most successful mix/recording engineers. Over the past decade, he has been nominated for Engineer of the Year three times at the Arias and has won the award three times.

We remember Doug most for the fact that whenever he walked into a session with us, he would tell us he had just completed a 24-hour recording session. At the time, Doug was a workhorse. While we did some 24 hour sessions with Doug at the time, we quickly learned that you get to a point in a session when what you are working on actually becomes worse. After that, we did not conduct any more 24 hour sessions. However, Doug was a prolific engineer at the time, and this appears to have continued.

Besides his incredible stamina in the studio, Doug was an exceptional engineer. A bit of trivia about Doug: he mixed the soundtrack for Crocodile Dundee, one of the most iconic films in Australian cinema history. In the course of his career, Doug recorded and mixed every Farnham album. Among others, he has worked with Kylie Minogue, Jimmy Barnes, The Black Sorrows, Bobby Brown, Tommy Emmanuel, Daryl Braithwaite, James Reyne, Tina Arena, Debra Conway, Kate Cebrano, Seal, Lenny Kravitz, John Butler, Keith Urban, among others. More recently, Doug was the Chief Mixing Engineer for the TV shows Dancing with the Stars, The Voice and The Voice Kids Australia.

We are eagerly anticipating Doug’s involvement in mixing our material in the upcoming month. The prospect of working with him has us filled with excitement.
